It now seems certain that the Cupertino giant will include a display with a refresh rate of 120Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max models, while the low-end iPhone 13 and 13 mini should not include ProMotion technology. Precisely for this reason, in fact, Apple is in talks with two different display suppliers for this year’s iPhone range.
As for the LTPO displays that will be used on the “Pro” models, Apple will use those made by Samsung, the undisputed industry leader, which reportedly began production in May. On the other hand, for the low-end models, the company led by Tim Cook will rely on LG.
Completely different story for the 2022 iPhones. Unlike the iPhone 12 and 13 series, consisting of a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch and one 6.7-inch model, the series provisionally named “iPhone 14 ”Will consist of two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models . Precisely for this reason, LG, which currently only produces displays for low-end iPhone models, will convert its production lines to provide Apple with displays with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
If the new report proves accurate, it will mean that both of Apple’s major display vendors, Samsung and LG, will be able to supply OLED LTPO displays to the Cupertino company, with the latter having the option to include ProMotion technology. across the iPhone 14 range.
But the news does not end here. 2022 could be the year that Apple eliminates the notch in favor of a “punch-hole” design.
Analyst Kuo says the new design will debut on high-end models at a minimum , which could mean that low-end devices will retain the same notch-based design. As for the iPhone 13 line, Apple will likely market ProMotion display technology as the reason the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max deserve the “Pro” nomenclature.
If the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a “punch-hole” design, the high-end models of the range will be further differentiated from the low-end devices. Such differentiation could provide Apple leeway to expand ProMotion technology across all models without devaluing the “Pro” devices.
